Abstract:

At the time of the Sun King, having his wife in the monarch's bed was for the nobles an inexhaustible source of privilege. The day that Louis XIV. Set his sights on Madame de Montespan, each at Versailles congratulated the husband on his good fortune. It was bad knowing Louis-Henri de Pardaillan, Marquis de Montespan ... Gascon feverish and passionately in love with his wife, Louis-Henri took the thing very badly. As soon as he heard of his misfortune, he adorned his coach with gigantic horns and undertook a ruthless war against the man who desecrated such a perfect union. Refusing honors and prebends, indifferent to repeated threats, all sorts of trials, imprisonment, ruin or assassination attempts, he continued his hatred of the King.--Babelio.
