Abstract:

Correspondence, play and film scripts, radio and television broadcasting files, subject files, financial records, press releases, clippings, print and near-print material, scrapbooks, and other records documenting the policies, organization, programs, activities, and membership of the Moral Re-Armament organization (MRA).

Papers of Moral Re-Armament founder Frank Buchman include material relating to his association with the YMCA and the Oxford Group (the forerunner of MRA); his role in the organizational, theological, and philosophical development of MRA, especially in regard to pacifism, isolationism, and anticommunism; his missionary work in Asia; and his personal and family life.

Papers of Ray Foote Purdy, Buchman's student at Princeton Theological Seminary and later a director of the Oxford Group and the MRA, pertain to his duties with the MRA, to his views on Nazi Germany, and to the psychological, social, and public relations aspects of the movement. Also includes material relating to his personal and family life and to the activities of MRA coworkers including Purdy's wife, Elsa Toennies Purdy; son, Ray Foote Purdy, Jr.; and brother, Frederick H. Purdy.

Papers of Kenaston Twitchell include correspondence, reports, and printed matter relating chiefly to his efforts through meetings sponsored by MRA to promote peace between France and Germany following World War II and to establish an MRA group in postwar Japan.
