Abstract:
Records the impressions of people who lived, grew up, worked on, were neighbours of or simply visited Kairuru, the Henderson family home set on the Takaka Hills. The final chapter records the pioneering life of a just-married couple who, in 1916, exchanged factory work in the north of England for a block of virgin bush on the South Island's West Coast.
