Watson composed the piece between 1819-1821, but his addendums date to 1829. Among the topics addressed are Calvinism; the Jewish Sabbath; singing in public worship; Christian dress; "religious toleration;" as well as dueling (p. 201); missionary work in Russia (in a letter drafted to Czar Alexander, p. 229); family planning and contraception (p. 146); Quakers (p. 181); and black ministers (following page 125).
