Abstract:

By the time Natasha Gurdin, daughter of Russian immigrants, is seven, she has been renamed Natalie Wood and is fast becoming a movie star. Over the years, as a reluctant star desperate to be freed from her mother's manipulative grasp, Natalie becomes an icon starring opposite Rex Harrison, James Dean, Gene Kelly, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, and her teen-idol fantasy man, Robert Wagner. She endures insecurities, emotional abuse, loneliness and a troubled marriage with Wagner. Then on a windy night in November 1981, off the coast of Catalina Island, tragedy occurs.
