Niemeyer (chemistry, University of Dortmund, Germany) and Mirkin (director, Institute for Nanotechnology, Center for Nanofabrication and Molecular Self-Assembly, Northwestern University) offer a survey of the field, combining contributions from bioorganic and bioinorganic chemistry, molecular biology, materials science, and bioanalytics.
