Abstract:

Typed carbon copy manuscripts of four undated, short autobiographical essays with minor manuscript annotations in an unidentified hand describing Salsbury's youth on his stepfather's farm; his military service in the Civil War and his early theatrical work; "An Evening with Boucicault," when he met General Sherman; and the humorous results of a parade advertising Salsbury's Troubadours in Brenham, Texas. Accompanied by typed carbon copies of an interview with Harry Tarleton of Taos, New Mexico, by Nate Salsbury's daughter Rebecca Salsbury James regarding Salsbury's Black America show, with manuscript annotations; of a biographical sketch of Salsbury written by Rev. David James Burrell, and published in The Christian Intelligencer in May 1903; and of a letter dated May 11, 1947, to a Mr. Holbrook from the brother of Milton Salsbury regarding Sitting Bull.
