A critical examination of the role and scope of radio and television programming in Canada's north. A condensation of a more exhaustive examination of native broadcasting in Canada prepared for a Unesco joint study entitled "The role of communication in the cultural development of rural areas". Includes chapters on Canada's native people: population, distribution, and cultures, an historical overview of native broadcasting in Canada and two case studies - one analyzing the evolution of a native communications society serving two Indian nations in Quebec, and the other a native society serving the Inuit.
