RBC Binding (Copy 2): Bound in original brown sheepskin leather: triple-line and floral gilt ornamental borders stamped on both covers; vegetal corner ornaments; gilt inner dentelles; four raised gilt decorated panels on spine with brown leather label, stamped in gilt, "White's Natural History of Selborne" with "London 1789" in gilt at foot of spine, gilt ornamental marks on edges of boards; top edge stained blue; marbled end-papers.
RBC Copy (Copy 2) : 27 cm.; illustrated armorial bookplate of "Charles Francis Wyatt. M.A. Broughton Rectory, Oxon." [i.e. Broughton, Oxfordshire, England] pasted on front inside board; verso of front free end-paper entirely covered with ink annotations of "C.F.W. Forest Hill, Oxon." [i.e. Charles Francis Wyatt] listing the original purchase of this copy "From Sotheby's Sale of Liby. of John Bruce F.S.A. May 1870" followed Wyatt's comments and his list of the sales of three other copies of the first edition in 1893, 1894 and 1899; opposite free end-paper signed by later owner Mangum Weeks and annotated: "Alexandria, Virginia & Resurrection Manor in Maryland. April 1956." and on verso "Bought of S[???], Phila. for $ mw" ; further annotations of Weeks on p. : "Began (3rd reading of text, 1st in this copy) at house in Alexandria, Virginia, 16 January 1926. MW"; several markings: p. "69" and "II" p. 431; laid-in: 1967 advertisement for the village of Selborne and Gilbert White's home The Wakes in the "Shell Countryside Books" series with a colored ill. by Ken Howard (from Punch, August 23, 1967).
