摘要:

"The Nature of School Bullying" provides a unique world-wide perspective on how different countries have conceptualized the issue of school bullying, what information has been gathered, and what interventions have been carried out. Written and compiled by well known experts in the field, it provides a concise summary of the current state of knowledge of school bullying in nineteen different countries, including: * demographic details * definitions of bullying * the nature and types of school bullying * descriptive statistics about bullying * initiatives and interventions. The Nature of School Bullying provides an authoritative resource for anyone interested in ways in which this problem is being tackled on a global scale. This book is concerned about bullying in schools; and mainly about peer-peer bullying, although teacher-pupil bullying gets some mention. The research of the last 25 years has shown that pubil bullying in schools is widespread wherever there ist institutionalised schooling; moreover, despite some cultural differences, many of the broad features are similar across different countries. For example, there are characteristic sex differences, with boys using and experiencing more physical means of bullying, and girls ursing and experiencing more indirect or relational means. Another commonly found characteristic is that many victims of bullying do not tell anyone, or seek help; too often, this is seen as despicable by the peer group, even sometimes by adults. Although bullying goes by different names in different languages, these and other common structural features suggest a shared reality and hold some promise of a shared search for solutions.
