Abstract:
NetLab and OCLC are investigating using an enhanced Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) database to provide searching and browsing of the Engineering Electronic Library, Sweden (EELS) database and a test collection of robot-gathered engineering documents. The combined collection will contain documents that have been described using intellectual classification and indexing according to the subject classification scheme produced by Engineering Information and documents automatically classified and indexed according to Dewey. The collaborative effort is intended to improve the knowledge-organization tools currently found on the Internet.
