Compilation of television coverage related to the New York Shakespeare Festival. Fifteen segments from New York City and Brazil, aired July 12 to August 1, 1991.
Segments two through eleven contain coverage of the controversy surrounding the New York Shakespeare Festival production of A midsummer night's dream at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park in August, 1991. The production, staged by a troupe from Brazil in English and Portuguese, features female nudity in some scenes. Discussion concerns the use of nudity in Shakespeare, the effect of Shakespeare as performed in Portuguese and the decision of New York Shakespeare Festival producer, Joseph Papp to present the show. Includes interviews with the director, various performers, officials and audience members. Includes several brief clips of the performance.
