摘要:
"Astronaut Malcolm Scott Carpenter rockets around the world three times and is plucked from the sea by a helicopter after landing 200 miles beyond the target area. There are 35 frightening minutes when the world does not know whether the 37-year-old Navy lieutenant commander is dead or alive--whether the Aurora 7 spacecraft has re-entered the atmosphere or whether it has been incinerated in the 3,000 degree re-entry heat. Then the spacecraft is spotted and word is flashed that Carpenter is safe, sound and serene. Carpenter's three-orbit triumph--America's second manned orbital flight--is part of the continuing investigation leading to a manned flight to the moon and return"--Hearst index card.
