Abstract:

Family correspondence, deeds, wills, estate papers, diplomas and certificates, diaries, and notes and writings on family history, 1810-1933, chiefly pertaining to various members of the Nichols and related Tredwell families of New York and Connecticut.

Correspondence includes letters received by members of the Nichols family from friends and family, as well as legal correspondence regarding the settlement of family estates, including a series of letters to Elizabeth H. Nichols from the New York City law firm of Cannon & Cannon, along with various legal documents, regarding the disputed estate of Seabury Tredwell of New York City. Other materials include a series of deeds, 1849-1860, for property in Brooklyn, New York, owned by the family and descendents of Rev. Samuel Nichols; pocket diary and diary entries on loose sheets, undated and unsigned, concerning the diarists' daily activities and family; wills of Julia E. tredwell and Susan W. Nichols; genealogical notes and writings; biographical sketch of Rev. Samuel Nichols; and assorted poems, receipts, etc. Additional members of the Nichols and Tredwell families represented here include lawyer Effingham H. Nichols, Samuel Nichol's wife, Susan N[exsen] Nichols (born Susan N. Warner); Sarah K. Tredwell; Elias Nexsen, of Detroit, Michigan; George W. Nichols; and a letter dated Nov. 12, 1810, addressed to Ellen Parker from "Alphonso" describing a visit to Augusta, Georgia.
