Abstract:

The 1998 festival records largely reflect the work of festival organizer Rachel Davies and consist of planning documents, correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, publications, photographs, publicity materials and post-festival evaluations. Writers who figure significantly in the records include Daphne Athas, Doris Betts, John Grisham, Allan Gurganus, Louis Rubin, and the Carolina African American Writers' Collective. The Addition of April 2012 consists of materials relating to the planning and organizing of the 2002 North Carolina Literary Festival, chiefly reflecting the work of program director Caroline Rowe Martens. There are also files containing biographical information, photographs, contracts, and other materials pertaining to the various festival participants, including Julia Alvarez, Allan Gurganus, Robert Morgan, Randall Kenan, and Clyde Edgerton, and five videotapes of participating authors Fred Chappell, Pam Durban, Randall Kenan, Michael McFee, and Alan Shapiro. Also included is the website for the 2009 North Carolina Literary Festival.
