Imagination is the ability to generate our own unique ideas. In these two companion titles (Not a Box and Not a Stick), the play possibilities of a simple stick or box are celebrated. These books provide all ages, particularly preschoolers, the opportunity to share and appreciate each other’s perceptions while allowing them to change these perceptions from page to page or moment to moment.

My toddler really took to this book. He's kind of picky when it comes to new bedtime favorites. He is into bunnies after watching them in our backyard. That makes the bunny as main character a sure win.
I like the simplicity of this book. It introduces imaginary play in the most basic way. It lets kids know that it's ok to pretend and use your mind to dream up possibilities. I also like that the bunny is firm and argumentative in his insistence that the cardboard object is NOT a box... much like toddlers can be, right?
