Abstract:

This collection documents the preparation of the first 3 vols. of NAW. It contains samples of the forms used by the editorial staff, consultants, and authors of biographical articles; lists of staff members; correspondence with authors, groups, and various institutions about research for NAW; lists of possible subjects (and, in many cases, short bio-bibliographies about them); research notes; and drafts, with corrections, of the articles included in NAW. The lists of subjects include women of the 17th, 18th, 19th, and first half of the 20th centuries who were considered noteworthy, but most of whom were ultimately not included in the published work. There is also a card file of information on women not included.
