Abstract:

Series of prints illustrating scenes from the opera Le Nozze Degli Dei or "The Wedding of the Gods" a Medici theatrical celebrating the wedding of Grand Duke Ferdinando II de' Medici and Princess Vittoria Della Rovere of Urbino. The production featured rapid-changing stage sets designed by Alfonso Parigi and was held in an open air theater in the courtyard of the Palazzo Pitti. Agniolo Ricci was the choreographer. These etchings of the scenography were executed to illustrate the printed version of the opera.
