Abstract:
Gossip and worry abound in Nugget City, a Colorado mining town that has made the transition to a ranching community, with the arrival of a mysterious stranger with two guns. Why has this gunfighter chosen to come to Nugget City? Some believe he might be the latest recruit in a range war that has been brewing for some time. Matters are only further complicated by Cathy Alle, the local seamstree, who confronts the avaricious town banker with a threat to revela his illicit relationship with Nugget City's school techer if he doesn't agree to buy her off. Ed McCoy, sheriff of Nugget City, is engaged to marry Judy Mauldin, the only daughter of M. Bar owner, Curt Mauldin, Mauldin suffers form periods of insame rage in his rivalry with Pete Egan of the Rafter E. Judy flees with M. Bar and comes to stay with Ed McCoy and his mother. Curly Wison, the M Bar ramrod, wants to make Judy his wife no matter what the opposition. Given the unbalanced mental state of Curt Mauldin, this additional conflict could well explode into violence between the M Bar and the sheriff.
