Summary:
Ondine is a sandpiper who does not believe it's important to do everything the way everyone else does. Her feelings lead her to making friends outside the family, with a talking seagull named Joe, with Old Nick the snowy owl, and with Hermit Thrush. She has a close call with a hawk, and after being swept up by a twister, learns of the kindness of humans. Finally she returns to her family beach.
