A brilliant epic novel of love, loss, and despair which explores one hundred years of life in the mythical South American village of Macondo. This desolate village founded by Jose Arcadio Buendía and inhabited by his descendants will see civil war and natural and supernatural calamities. Marquez chronicles the lives of the impulsive Buendía men and assertive and grounded Buendía women. Solitude is present not only in the title of this book, but in every character, even the town is isolated from the rest of the world. Márquez takes us into a world of magical realism full of superstition and bizarre happenings which captivates not only our imagination but our spirit. The Nobel laureate Gabriel García Márquez created a multilayered masterpiece regarded as one of the 20th Century’s best works of fiction. This book should have a space reserved on the shelves of all American libraries in both English and Spanish.
