Abstract:

The development of the operating microscope, fine instruments and suture materials have made the repair of eye injuries possible that only a few years ago would have resulted in permanent vision loss. The role of the primary care physicianin assessing and treating ophthalmic emergencies and referring patients to an ophthalmologist when necessary is the subject of this program. Techniques of examination and therapy are discussed and medico-legal advice is given.
