Frances Pernas discusses Museum activities in the 1940s and 1950s focusing particularly on the Museum's Department of Publications. Included in her dialogue are insights into personalities of the individuals who helped to define the institution. For example, she describes working with Alfred H. Barr, Jr., Monroe Wheeler, Rene d'Harnoncourt, John Rewald, Edward Steichen, Peter Selz, and William C. Seitz, among others.

She conveys her perceptions about their aesthetic preferences in her comments on specific Museum publications.
