Chappie discusses farming in Cool, Calif., WWII experience in the South Pacific, appointment to the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors in 1950, water politics, SOFAR project, being elected to the California Assembly, committee assignments, reapportionment, handicapped access, fundraising, lobbying efforts, and his election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Major topics covered include regional planning in the Lake Tahoe Basin, welfare reform, environment as a political issue, opposition to Jerry Brown's administration, Auburn Dam controversy, and his decision to retire from the U.S. House of Representatives.
