Abstract:

The Whitney collection covers the period from 1874 to 1931. Correspondents include Joseph F. Smith, David O. McKay, Charles Nibley, Melvin J. Ballard, Reed Smoot, Heber J. Grant, Joseph McMurrin, and George Brimhall. Whitney's wife, Zina Smoot Whitney, was also a minor writer, and the Orson F. Whitney papers contain a sampling of some of her works. The rest of the materials in the collection fall under various categories: patriarchal blessings, ordination blessings, missionary certificates, personal calling cards and handbills, along with the souvenirs that he acquired during his travels in Europe. Also included is his personal scrapbook, which contains clippings which he saved that document the work of people he admired and the publication and reviews of many of his writings.
