Through a series of cunning maneuvers, Iago suggests to Otello and seems to prove a liaison between Desdemona, Otello's wife, and Cassio. Recalled to Venice, Otello succumbs to his rage and strangles Desdemona. Iago's wife Emilia protests Desdemona's innocence, and word arrives that the dying Rodrigo has revealed Iago's treachery. Iago escapes and Otello kills himself.
