The Library Company of Philadelphia copy is inscribed: NB This paper was found in the streets the morning after Mr. M'Dougall was arrested. the 9th of February 1770.
Alexander McDougall was arrested as the author of the handbill, "To the betrayed inhabitants of the city and county of New York," which was held responsible for provoking trouble between the citizens and British soldiers. Cf. Decker, M. Brink of revolution ..., 1964, p. 103-104 and 109-111.
