Interview recalls youth in Berkeley, California; Sierra Club High Trips, 1940s-1952; organizing Sierra Club's Pacific Northwest Chapter, 1954; North Cascades Conservation Council--its founding, membership, purposes, tactics, his presidency (1958-1984), campaign for North Cascades National Park, including work with Senator Henry Jackson and other political figures; his position as a Sierra Club board member, 1967-1970. Appended are letters re founding of Sierra Club chapter, a roster of Sierra Club members living in the Cascades Region (ca. 1953), and a curriculum vitae.

Interview discusses forming Sierra Club's Pacific Northwest Chapter, involvement in Mountaineers, North Cascades Conservation Council, Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs, Olympic Parks Associates, 1950s-1980s; campaigns to preserve Olympic National Park, to establish North Cascades National Park, Alpine Lakes Wilderness, Three Sisters Wilderness, Alaskan Wilderness; relations with U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, National Park Service; women in conservation; Sierra Club internal affairs as board member, 1960-1967.
