Kazuo Ishiguro's first novel may be his most enigmatic. While some readers may find the lack of closure frustrating, I think it shows the author's high regard for his readers. Multiple interpretations are likely and in my opinion are preferable to the condescending and simplifying meta-narration a lesser writer may have relied on. Revel in the ambiguity. This novel provides ample food for thought and is an ideal book club choice.
