Subjects include lands owned by the Proprietors of the Pawtuxet Grant, a group including Harris and Roger Williams, which held considerable property along the Pawtuxet River in what is now Cranston, R.I., the subsequent land division among new settlers, and claims and appeals made by the Harrises and others to the British government; bankruptcy of Providence politician, Elisha Brown (1717-1802); and estates of brothers Joseph (1713-1786) and Andrew (1715-1787) Harris which were administered by Joseph's son, Elisha Harris (1744-1825). Other family members represented include William Harris's son, Andrew (1635-1685), grandson, Toleration Harris (1685-1767), Elisha Harris's son, Bates (1773-1859), and Moses Brown (1738-1836), father-in-law of Bates Harris.
