Abstract:

Correspondence, legal, and financial papers of David Watson (1773-1830) as well as 4 of his diaries (1796-1830) describing College of William and Mary, farm and family events, comments on national and state politics, economics, University of Virginia, and trip to Warm Springs, Va. (1822); papers of Watson's son, Thomas S. Watson (1819-1895), and grandson, Thomas S. Watson, Jr. (1856-1927); business papers relating to Elijah Hutchinson, a relative; letters of another grandson, Maj. David Watson (1830-1864), describing Confederate military service and trip to Louisiana and Alabama (early 1861); and papers (chiefly family correspondence) of Garret Minor (1744-1799), containing letters from Fontaine Maury, merchant, of Fredericksburg, Va.; together with ca. 100 account books (1815-1925) mostly concerning farm management in Louisa County; shoemaker's account books (1814-1816); doctor's fee book (1846-1850); estate settlement accounts (1830-1837); financial papers (late 19th and early 20th centuries); and University of Virginia autograph album (1853). Correspondents include James Barbour, B. Johnson Barbour, Joseph C. Cabell, Alexander Garrett, Francis Walker Gilmer, Hugh Mercer, Edmund Randolph, and Thomas Walker.
