Correspondence, including letters (1863-1866) to William H. Maher (1846-1913) from Louis Agassiz, P.T. Barnum, Horace Greeley, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Charles Sumner, Bayard Taylor, and others, regarding lecturing before Young Men's Club of Windsor Locks, Conn.; and letters (1895-1934) to his daughter, Amy Grace Maher (1883-1965) from James Whitcomb Riley, Frances Perkins, and others; together with inquiries (1878-1906) to Maher & Grosh Cutlery Co.; autograph collection of William H. Maher containing letters and documents signed by 18th and 19th century U.S. politicians and soldiers, including John Quincy Adams, James Buchanan, Salmon P. Chase, Sir Henry Clinton, Jefferson Davis, James Madison, John Randolph, Jean Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau, and others; and album containing signatures of colonial New England ministers and officials. Other persons represented include his wife, Anne Kelsey Maher (ca. 1840-1919). Other correspondents include Henry Laurens Dawes, George Cary Eggleston, Rutherford B. Hayes, and Jack London.
