The Weir Family Papers include papers of Robert Walter Weir (1803-1889), professor of drawing at West Point; his son, John Ferguson Weir (1841-1926), director of the Yale School of Fine Arts; and of another son, Julian Alden Weir (1852-1919), an American Impressionist artist and president of the National Academy of Design (1915-1917). Correspondence, diaries, scrapbooks, manuscripts, speeches, artwork, clippings and published material relating to these three and fourteen other family members make up the collection. The bulk of the collection relates to J. Alden Weir.
