Correspondence, diaries, business, financial, and legal papers, poetry, memorabilia, clippings, photos, genealogical material relating to the Bolling, Cabell, MacMurdo, Page, Rives, Starke, and Walker families, and other papers. Includes correspondence relating to management of the family farm, state and national politics, Civil War and Reconstruction, University of Virginia, family genealogy, and travel in Germany (1851) and England (1914), as well as studies by Alfred Landon Rives (1830-1903) at Ecole nationale des ponts et chaussées in Paris, and his subsequent employment by Richmond and Danville Railroad; letters (1872-1873) of William Cabell Rives (1850-1938) as a student at University of Oxford; correspondence with E.S. McSparran concerning construction of a family home; and childhood journals (1874 and 1879) of Amélie Rives Chanler Troubetzkoy (1863-1945). Other persons represented include Richard Hovey (1864-1900), Grace Winthrop Sears Rives, Judith Page Walker Rives (1802-1882), William Cabell Rives (1793-1868), William Cabell Rives (1825-1889), and Amélie Louise Rives Sigourney (1832-1873).
