Subjects include Allured's teaching job in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and his death there; Douglass' geological work in Michigan; Fredonia land values; the family ancestry; and other family news.

Other items include student compositions, 1827-34, by Richard and Sarah Houghton (1817-1840); a student copybook kept by Allured Houghton in 1825; a journal kept by Sarah, 1833-38, with original poems, some school compositions, and an exchange of poem-letters between Sarah and one A.H.A. in Vicksburg, Mississippi, 1838; a memory book kept by Lydia H. Bradish, 1831-41; a typescript copy of Lydia's 1844 diary of her trip to Montreal; and genealogies, clippings, deeds, and certificates.
