Includes social and business correspondence of George William Bagby, accounts concerning the newspaper The Native Virginian, published at Orange Court House; military papers concerning his Civil War service with the Army of Northern Virginia; satirical lectures and writings concerning life in antebellum Virginia, among them "The Old Virginia Gentleman," "The Disease Called Love, " and "The Old Virginia Negro"; broadsides and admission tickets to lectures given by Bagby; scrapbooks and notes of newspaper articles; diaries kept while Bagby was editor of the Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond, Va., and writer for The State; and commonplace books. Also contain accounts of Lucy Parke (Chamberlayne) Bagby, including those associated with the Rosemary Library in Richmond, Va.
