Most of these papers are photocopies of Child's letters to William Baldwin, Francis Garrison, William Lloyd Garrison, Ellis Gray Loving, Gerrit Smith, Theodore Tilton, John Greenleaf Whittier, and others, 1836-1879, pertaining to personal matters, life in New York City, slavery, anti-slavery work, Civil War, writing, and black suffrage. Collection also includes an original journal of a voyage to Europe, 1842, originally attributed to Child and research letters concerning the probability that it was not written by Child.
