Family correspondence (1844-1866) between Willis Field Jones (1827-1864), farmer, horse breeder, and Confederate Army officer, of Woodstock County, Ky., his wife, Martha McDowell Buford Jones (1829-1866), and his mother, Elizabeth A. Jones, relating to Evans Farm, near Versailles, Ky., family news, social activities, and the southern cause, Jones's decision to fight with the Confederate Army, and the problems caused at home by the war and Jones's absence; diaries (1860, 1862-1864) of Martha Jones recording daily activities, family news, care and treatment of slaves, the family's involvement in horse racing, and progress and effects of the Civil War; military documents, including dispatch (1864) from Gen. Martin Witherspoon Gary; genealogical data on Field and Jones families; early history of Midway and Woodford County, Ky.; clippings; and other papers. Includes letter (1860) from George Robertson to John J. Crittenden concerning a recent conference with Abraham Lincoln and Robertson's hopes for the new administration, Martha Jones's letter to Lincoln following the death of her husband in 1864 and his response, letters (1955-1956) concerning William H. Townsend and his book on Lincoln, information on Gen. George Armstrong Custer's purchase of horses from Gen. Abraham Buford (1820-1884), and survey (1969) of the original home of Col. Abraham Buford (1794-1833) in Lexington, Ky.
