Abstract:
Correspondence, (Novermber, 1845), mainly concerning the Jacob B. Backenstos trial and the Edmond Durfee trial; legal papers (affidavits, subpoenas, warrants for arrests, and orders); court transcripts, dealing with the Jacob b. Backenstos murder trial and two other trials; the minutes of a meeting of the citizens of Carthage, Illinois wherein it was resolved to keep peace until the departure of the Mormons, (November 18, 1845).
