Bulk of collection consists of business and personal correspondence; highlight of collection is correspondence between his five main associates, David D. Colton, Charles Crocker, Edwin B. Crocker, Mark Hopkins, and Leland Stanford. Their correspondence deals with both personal and business matters--their railroads, public relation problems, legislative restrictions. Legal and financial records for the 34 companies in which Huntington had an interest. Personal records in form of account books, civil suits, bills, real estate, etc.

Personal papers include autobiographical letters, genealogy, etc., records for his business and philanthropic interests, printed pamphlets primarily relating to railroad interests, four volumes of printed correspondence published between 1891 and 1894.
