The collection includes his compilations for Poems of the prairies (1865); Iowa: the promised of the prophets (1884); Protection and free trade (1888); and Our own Columbia that is to be (1908). Individuals receiving tributes in his works include his friend and publisher, Benjamin Franklin Allen, John Anson Nash, Des Moines lawyer Marcellus Crocker, and various Sauk and Fox leaders such a Keokuk and Black Hawk.
