Abstract:

Holographs (many in notebooks), typescripts, research material and notes, dummies and proofs, for both published and un-published stories and poems for juveniles and adults. The collection also contains a subtantial amount of correspondence, both business and personal, to and from Elizabeth Jane Coatsworth. Correspondents include Lynd Ward, Mary Gould Davis, Louise Seamans Bechtel, and others, as well as Elizabeth Coatsworth's family including her daughters Margaret (Beston) Mechau and Katherine (Beston) Barnes. There is also correspondence to Elizabeth Coatsworth's husband, the author Henry Beston. The collection contains journals written by Elizabeth Coatsworth, many kept during her travels throughout the world and many contain stories, poems, ephemera, and photographs. The collection also contains scrapbooks, photograph albums and miscellaneous material.
