Abstract:

Personal and professional correspondence (chiefly letters of application and recommendation), typescripts of articles by colleagues, student examinations, library reserve lists, committee appointments, faculty reports, notices, memoranda, and financial records, relating to White's duties as professor of agricultural biology and director of Blandy Experimental Farm, University of Virginia; together with journal (1921-1922) written as botanist on an expedition to the Amazon Basin led by Henry Hurd Rusby, notes taken at lectures by Wilhelm Ludvig Johannsen, book reviews, genetics articles, and diary (1923) of trip to Yellowstone National Park by Charles Thomas Brues. Correspondence with John Burroughs contains material relating to Luther Burbank and Charles Darwin. Includes material relating to American Rock Garden Society, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Houghton Mifflin Company, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, and Smithsonian Institution. Correspondents include Clara Barrus, Albert Francis Blakeslee, Charles T. Brues, Raymond Adams Butcher, Lincoln Constance, Edward M. East, Walter S. Flory, Montague Free, C. Stuart Gager, Lula O.
