Abstract:

Papers of a playwright, screenwriter, and editor, consisting chiefly of synopses, treatments, scenarios, and scripts for Nicholson's work in theater, motion pictures, and radio.

Several of the theater scripts were co-authored with his friend S. N. Behrman. Also of interest is a film treatment heavily annotated by Darryl F. Zanuck and scripts for the radio programs "Cavalcade of America" (CBS), which Nicholson produced, and "Theatre Guild of the Air" (ABC, later on the "United States Steel Hour" on NBC), for which he was an adapter. Also present are general correspondence, financial records, legal files, playbills, reviews, clippings, and microfilmed scrapbooks which relate in particular to his work in the theater. Prominent correspondents include Bernard Baruch, Behrman, David Belasco, Thomas E. Dewey, Walter Huston, Carl Laemmle, H. L. Mencken, George Jean Nathan, Billy Rose, Dore Schary, Robert E. Sherwood, Stuart Walker, and Darryl F. Zanuck.
