Notes: Eans was born in Georgia. As a nursing student she attended Grady Hospital School of Nursing, Clark College, the University of Michigan, and New York University. Specializing in public health education, Eans taught in Alabama and Missouri before joining the Wishard Hospital School of Nursing faculty. She retired in 1977. In Indianapolis she was active in several community and professional organizations.
This collection is part of the Black Women in the Middle West Project.

Abstract:

The collection contains material documenting the student and professional career of a teacher of nursing education, including a college memory book (1926) and photographs of Grady Memorial Hospital School of Nursing; graduate field study notes at the Hartford (Conn.) Tuberculosis and Health Society (1945); correspondence (1952-1974); certificates of commendation; and retirement cards and letters (1977), including one from Senator Richard Lugar; and personal and professional photographs. Also included are materials from the Northwest Civic Association and Sigma Gamma Rho sorority; lists of health education materials; a five-year study Eans did of the Lincoln University (Jefferson City, Mo.) health services; and Eans' obituaries and funeral program.
