Chiefly correspondence, case files, dockets, and other papers, relating to Marshall's tenure on the U.S. Supreme Court (1967-1991); together with correspondence, administrative files, and other papers, relating to his service as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (1961-1965), and correspondence and legal papers relating to years as U.S. Solicitor General. The papers reflect Marshall's advocacy for the civil rights of minorities, the disadvantaged, and criminal defendants, and his opposition to capital punishment. Correspondents include Benjamin O.
