Abstract:

The collection primarily contains materials related to Hennessee's participation in the National Organization for Women (NOW), especially NOW's 1972 petition to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to deny renewal of WABC-TV's license due to alleged discrimination against women in programming and employment. Other feminist materials include clippings, political buttons, and stickers, and printed material, including issues of the literary magazine APHRA and various women's organizations newsletters. Also includes interview transcripts, other research materials, correspondence about, and a typescript and published copy of Hennessee's biography BETTY FRIEDAN.
