Abstract:

Photocopied transcription of a diary kept by Schoephoester while he was kept as a prisoner of war in Germany after his B-24, the "Gremlins Roost," was shot down. He writes about bailing out of his plane, finding others from his plane, being taken prisoner in Holland, interrogation, food supply, staying in German homes, and emotions upon liberation. There is also photocopied correspondence between Schoephoester and other members of his crew reflecting on being shot down, an eyewitness account written in German, and letters from others interested in his World War II experiences. Included are photocopied photos of his plane. Photographs show Schoephoester in uniform, his plane being shot down, and his family.
