The case notes include the legal opinions and cases of Ball and Crommelin and their clients, as well as interrogation notes. The papers are from a wide number of courts, including the United States District Court, the New York District Court, the Maryland District Court, and eight Alabama county courts. The subjects of these papers and the client correspondence include property claims,bankruptcy, debt claims and complaints. There are also references to the Crommelin plantation and the sale and purchase of cotton. The collection also contains the financial records and accounts of the firm for their cases. These records include a large number of checks and receipts.
