Correspondence discussing family, social and domestic life, health, writing, the work of other authors, travel (including a letter describing a trip by steamer and rail from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Waltham, Mass.), and the people at their weekly "at-homes", including P.T. Barnum, Horace Greeley, Thomas Allen Jenckes, Thomas Wallace Knox, and Whitelaw Reid; together with mss. of their poems Adelied, Alas, An Answer to the Last Verse of Friend Whittier's Poem 'The Singer, ' Comfort, Three Wrens, Uncertainty, and Winter's Song. Correspondents include Charles F. Deems, James Thomas Fields, Richard Watson Gilder, James Ripley Osgood, and Richard Henry Stoddard.
